IRCC updates temporary residence processing times as of August 26

Canada Temporary Residence Processing Times (Aug 26, 2026): Work, Study, Visitor & Super Visa Updates
IRCC published updated temporary residence processing-time estimates on August 26, 2026. This weekly snapshot shows small but meaningful movements: the Philippines’ work permit estimate improved by one week; Pakistan’s work permit estimate increased by one week (from 7 to 8 weeks); India’s study permit estimate rose by two weeks; and super visa estimates shortened for applicants in Pakistan and the United States. These shifts can affect travel, job start dates, study planning and family visits.
How IRCC reports processing times
Processing times are estimates (historical or forward-looking) and are not guarantees. Service standards are separate performance targets. Temporary residence service standards reported here: in-Canada submissions (initial & extensions) = 120 days; outside-Canada submissions = 60 days. Visitor visas (outside Canada) target 14 days. IRCC updates temporary residence estimates weekly. IRCC finalized 1,566,455 temporary residence applications in the first half of 2026 and had more than 401,000 temporary residence applications in inventory at the end of June.

What this means in practice
Small weekly changes matter when timelines are tight. Employers, post-secondary institutions, family sponsors and travellers should monitor these weekly estimates and build buffers into start dates, travel plans and housing arrangements. Always prepare documentation early and plan contingencies, because published processing times are estimates — individual applications can take longer or shorter depending on complexity and additional checks.
Numbers to note
– Report date: August 26, 2026 (compared with August 19, 2026).
– IRCC finalized 1,566,455 temporary residence applications in the first six months of 2026.
– Inventory: more than 401,000 temporary residence applications remained at the end of June 2026.
– Next update: IRCC is expected to publish the next temporary residence processing times update on or around September 2, 2026.
The August 26 update shows modest, targeted movements rather than large system-wide shifts. Track the weekly tables relevant to your country and application type to plan effectively.
