Main Duties

Customs, Ship, and Other Brokers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Prepare and submit import/export documentation in line with customs regulations
  • Sign customs forms using power of attorney
  • Arrange payment of duties, taxes, bonds, storage, and transportation
  • Quote tariff rates and customs charges
  • Advise clients on import/export restrictions, insurance, and trade rules
  • Represent clients before government agencies or tribunals
  • Buy and sell cargo space on vessels
  • Arrange ship charters and cargo movement
  • Negotiate freight rates and contracts
  • Buy and sell vessels or yachts
  • Inspect ships and explain features
