Main Duties
Customs, Ship, and Other Brokers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Prepare and submit import/export documentation in line with customs regulations
- Sign customs forms using power of attorney
- Arrange payment of duties, taxes, bonds, storage, and transportation
- Quote tariff rates and customs charges
- Advise clients on import/export restrictions, insurance, and trade rules
- Represent clients before government agencies or tribunals
- Buy and sell cargo space on vessels
- Arrange ship charters and cargo movement
- Negotiate freight rates and contracts
- Buy and sell vessels or yachts
- Inspect ships and explain features
- Organize cargo or vessel insurance
- Arrange vessel registration and licensing
