Main Duties

Dentists perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Examine teeth, gums, and oral tissues to diagnose diseases and abnormalities
  • Perform dental procedures including cleanings, fillings, root canals, and extractions
  • Fit crowns, bridges, dentures, and dental implants
  • Prescribe medications and treatment plans
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive care
  • Supervise dental hygienists, assistants, and clinic staff
  • Perform complex oral and maxillofacial surgeries (for specialists)
  • Diagnose and correct jaw alignment and dental irregularities (orthodontists)
  • Restore oral function and aesthetics using prosthetics (prosthodontists)
  • Administer local or general anesthesia for dental procedures

Employment Requirements
