Main Job Duties
Elementary and Secondary School Teacher Assistants perform some or all of the following duties:
- Assist students with integration into classroom activities and school routines
- Support students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts
- Help students with special needs using sign language, Braille, or remedial techniques
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom activities
- Monitor and report student progress to teachers
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, field trips, and school activities
- Assist in the operation of audio-visual and classroom equipment
- Help maintain classroom organization and student records
- Provide support in school libraries and administrative areas
- Encourage positive behaviour and assist with classroom management
- Support inclusive education and individualized learning plans
