Main Duties
Jewellers, jewellery and watch repairers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Fabricate and repair precious metal jewellery such as rings, brooches, and bracelets
- Examine, cut, shape, and polish diamonds and precious gems using optical instruments and lathes
- Appraise gemstones to identify rare specimens and detect peculiarities affecting value
- Set precious stones in jewellery mountings according to precise specifications
- Disassemble, examine, and repair worn or broken parts in clocks and watches
- Fabricate or fit replacement parts for vintage or high-end timepieces
- Test, adjust, and regulate timepiece movements for accuracy
- Clean delicate parts using ultrasonic or mechanical cleaning machines
- May supervise or train other jewellers and apprentices
