Main Duties

Contractors and supervisors in electrical and telecommunications trades perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of workers installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and telecommunications systems
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate activities with subcontractors and other departments
  • Requisition materials and supplies and resolve operational and technical problems
  • Train workers or arrange training and ensure compliance with workplace safety and electrical safety codes
  • Prepare work progress reports and recommend hiring, promotions, and personnel actions
  • Oversee installation of smart grid systems, fiber-optic networks, and advanced electrical infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with national and provincial regulations related to electrical and telecommunications systems
  • Manage large-scale infrastructure projects and supervise multi-disciplinary teams
