Main Duties

Contractors and supervisors in carpentry trades perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of carpenters and cabinetmakers across construction sites
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate activities with other trades such as plumbing and electrical
  • Requisition materials and supplies and resolve workflow problems to improve productivity
  • Train apprentices and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards
  • Prepare progress reports, material estimates, and recommend hiring or promotions
  • Oversee construction of residential, commercial, and modular building structures
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, structural requirements, and energy efficiency standards
  • Manage project timelines and quality control across multiple job sites
