Main Duties
Supervisors in railway transport operations perform some or all of the following duties:
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of locomotive engineers, yard workers, and railway labourers
- Establish operational methods to meet strict rail schedules and coordinate with maintenance and logistics teams
- Resolve complex operational issues and improve transit efficiency and fuel performance
- Train staff in Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR), safety standards, and digital monitoring systems
- Prepare operational reports and recommend hiring, promotions, and training decisions
- Oversee railway yard logistics and mainline operations
- Ensure compliance with national rail safety regulations and operational protocols
- Manage AI-driven scheduling systems and digital train integrity monitoring technologies
