Main Duties

Machinists and machining and tooling inspectors perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine machining operations
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools to perform precision sawing, turning, milling, and grinding
  • Program machine tools using advanced CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software
  • Monitor machining processes and adjust settings to maintain high-precision tolerances
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, verniers, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)
  • Inspect machined parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
  • Report deviations, maintain calibration of measuring tools, and prepare inspection reports
  • Monitor real-time sensor data and tooling conditions to optimize production efficiency
