Main Duties

Boilermakers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine fabrication and assembly processes
  • Lay out plate and sheet steel, marking bending and cutting lines using precision instruments
  • Operate heavy-metal working machines such as brakes, rolls, shears, and flame cutters
  • Fit, assemble, and weld metal sections to fabricate boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers
  • Erect and install boilers and heavy-metal products using rigging, hoisting, and power tools
  • Perform maintenance and repair work on existing boiler systems to ensure safety and efficiency
  • Conduct hydro-testing and other verification processes to ensure structural integrity
  • Work with automated welding systems and advanced inspection technologies

  • Red Seal endorsement is highly recommended for interprovincial mobility and higher wages
