Main Duties

Welders and related machine operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, and engineering drawings
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment using processes such as TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), FCAW, and SMAW
  • Set up, operate, and monitor automated or robotic welding and brazing machines
  • Adjust machine settings and robotic welding heads to meet production specifications
  • Operate flame-cutting equipment to prepare and shape metal components
  • Inspect welded joints and structures for defects and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Repair worn or damaged metal parts by welding additional material layers
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of welding and fabrication equipment
