Main Duties

Electricians perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts
  • Install electrical wiring, conduits, brackets, and support systems in residential and commercial buildings
  • Pull wires through conduits and walls and connect electrical systems to power sources
  • Install, replace, and repair lighting fixtures, switches, relays, and circuit breaker panels
  • Test electrical systems using multimeters and diagnostic tools to measure voltage, current, and resistance
  • Troubleshoot and repair faults in electrical and electronic systems
  • Ensure all installations comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and safety standards
  • Install smart systems including data cabling, fiber optics, and automated building controls
