Main Duties

Power system electricians perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Install and maintain electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, generators, voltage regulators, switches, and circuit breakers
  • Install and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for grid monitoring and automation
  • Service and repair electrical apparatus in generating stations and powerhouses
  • Use high-voltage testing instruments to locate faults and verify system performance
  • Calibrate and test protective relay systems to safeguard electrical infrastructure
  • Perform preventative maintenance on high-voltage systems and equipment
  • Prepare detailed maintenance and testing reports for compliance with safety standards
  • Ensure continuous and safe operation of power generation and transmission systems
