Main Duties
Telecommunications line and cable installers and repairers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Install, remove, and maintain aerial and underground telephone, coaxial, and fiber optic cables
- Splice and repair various types of cables using specialized tools to ensure minimal signal loss
- Repair or replace faulty cables, amplifiers, power supplies, and transmission equipment
- Test and inspect cable systems using signal meters and diagnostic tools
- Analyze and record test results for quality assurance and system performance
- Assist in erecting and dismantling telecommunication poles, towers, and support structures
- Climb poles or work in confined spaces such as trenches, tunnels, and crawl spaces
- Ensure network stability and continuous connectivity for telecommunications infrastructure
Employment Requirements
