Main Duties

Steamfitters, pipefitters and sprinkler system installers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of piping and fire-suppression systems
  • Cut, thread, and bend pipes and join them using welding, brazing, soldering, and mechanical couplings
  • Install high-pressure steam, chemical, and industrial piping systems in refineries, plants, and construction sites
  • Install and maintain automatic fire-sprinkler and fire-suppression systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings
  • Conduct hydrostatic and air-pressure tests to ensure system integrity and safety compliance
  • Inspect piping systems for leaks, corrosion, and performance issues
  • Ensure all installations comply with national building and safety codes
  • Work with modern systems including smart fire-suppression technologies and specialized piping for energy and carbon-capture facilities

Employment Requirements
