Main Duties
Carpenters perform some or all of the following duties:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine specifications and calculate material requirements
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes using measuring tools and laser levels
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, and lightweight steel
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware with precision
- Maintain, repair, and renovate residences and wooden structures across various sectors
- Work with prefabricated modular components and advanced construction technologies
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and green construction practices
Employment Requirements

- Completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship program OR over four years of work experience combined with relevant courses is required
