Main Duties

Cabinetmakers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Study plans, specifications, or blueprints to determine layout and material requirements
  • Operate woodworking machines such as saws, jointers, mortisers, and shapers to cut and shape materials
  • Trim joints and fit parts together using glue, clamps, nails, and screws to assemble finished products
  • Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneers, stains, and finishes for final presentation
  • Repair and restyle furniture, cabinets, and wooden fixtures for residential and commercial use
  • Design and estimate materials using CADD software for custom cabinetry projects
  • Program and operate CNC machines for high-precision wood fabrication
  • Ensure quality standards and precision in all custom-built and manufactured wood products
