Main Duties

Bricklayers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read blueprints and drawings to calculate materials and lay out patterns for walls, arches, and chimneys
  • Spread mortar and lay bricks, concrete blocks, or stones according to building codes and specifications
  • Cut and trim bricks or stones using hand tools and power tools to ensure proper fit
  • Finish joints using pointing tools to achieve structural strength and aesthetic finish
  • Repair and restore damaged masonry in historical structures and industrial settings
  • Install firebrick linings and refractory materials in furnaces, chimneys, and fireplaces
  • Work with high-performance insulation materials to meet energy efficiency and Net-Zero standards
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and construction standards
