Main Duties

Insulators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine insulation requirements and select appropriate materials
  • Measure, cut, and apply insulating materials such as fibreglass, mineral wool, and foam
  • Install insulation using spraying, blowing, pasting, strapping, or taping techniques
  • Fit insulation around obstructions and within complex structures such as piping systems and wall cavities
  • Install vapour barriers and firestopping materials to ensure compliance with building and fire safety codes
  • Remove hazardous insulation materials such as asbestos following strict health and safety protocols
  • Ensure energy efficiency and thermal protection in residential, commercial, and industrial systems
  • Work with modern insulation technologies including eco-friendly materials and thermal scanning tools
