Main Duties
Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:
- Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to determine machinery layout and work procedures
- Install, align, and move stationary industrial machinery such as pumps, fans, conveyors, and generators
- Inspect machinery to detect irregularities using vibration analysis, laser alignment, and thermal imaging
- Maintain and repair power transmission, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems
- Install and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automated systems
- Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate and repair components
- Perform preventive maintenance and predictive diagnostics to minimize downtime
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industrial standards
