Main Duties

Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematics to determine machinery layout and work procedures
  • Install, align, and move stationary industrial machinery such as pumps, fans, conveyors, and generators
  • Inspect machinery to detect irregularities using vibration analysis, laser alignment, and thermal imaging
  • Maintain and repair power transmission, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum systems
  • Install and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automated systems
  • Operate machine tools such as lathes and grinders to fabricate and repair components
  • Perform preventive maintenance and predictive diagnostics to minimize downtime
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industrial standards
