Main Duties

Heavy-duty equipment mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Diagnose faults and malfunctions using computerized diagnostic equipment
  • Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts and components using specialized tools and heavy rigging equipment
  • Test repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications
  • Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, lubricating, and servicing heavy machinery
  • Inspect and maintain hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Service attachments such as blades, ploughs, winches, and harvesting equipment
  • Work with diesel engines, emission-control systems, and advanced onboard electronics
  • Ensure safety compliance and proper functioning of all heavy equipment systems
