Main Duties

Automotive service technicians and mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify faults in mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
  • Repair or replace parts in fuel systems, brakes, steering, suspension, and climate control systems
  • Overhaul engines, transmissions, and drivetrain components to manufacturer specifications
  • Inspect and repair commercial transport truck systems including air brakes and hydraulic components
  • Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and system checks
  • Test repaired systems to ensure proper performance and safety compliance
  • Communicate with supervisors and customers regarding vehicle conditions and required repairs
  • Maintain detailed service records and ensure compliance with safety standards
