Main Duties

Oil and solid fuel heating mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine system layout
  • Install and assemble oil burner components, thermostats, motors, and piping systems
  • Connect heating systems to fuel supply and ventilation systems
  • Test and calibrate heating systems to ensure optimal performance and fuel efficiency
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning oil burners, wood boilers, and control systems
  • Install and maintain solid fuel systems including wood and coal heating units
  • Perform chimney, venting, and combustion system inspections
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to ensure environmental compliance and system efficiency

Employment Requirements
