Main Duties

Electrical mechanics perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Test and observe electrical apparatus such as motors, transformers, and switchgear using voltmeters, ammeters, and thermal imaging tools
  • Diagnose faults in electrical systems using advanced diagnostic equipment and predictive maintenance tools
  • Disassemble and rebuild electric motors, generators, and related equipment
  • Wind armatures, install bearings, and replace defective mechanical and electrical components
  • Maintain and repair transformers, including testing insulating oils and servicing cooling systems
  • Inspect and repair high-voltage switchgear and control systems to ensure safe operation
  • Machine and refinish components such as shafts and commutators to manufacturer specifications
  • Perform preventive maintenance to reduce system downtime in industrial environments

Employment Requirements
