Main Duties

Air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Conduct pre-flight inspections and ensure proper weight and balance of aircraft
  • Operate aircraft safely while maintaining communication with air traffic control
  • Monitor and manage onboard navigation, engine performance, and aircraft systems
  • Train student pilots in flying techniques, navigation, and aviation regulations (for instructors)
  • Monitor and manage aircraft systems during flight and assist with in-flight technical operations (for flight engineers)
  • Ensure compliance with Transport Canada safety regulations and aviation standards
  • Prepare flight logs, reports, and documentation for each journey
  • Respond to in-flight emergencies and ensure passenger and crew safety

Employment Requirements

  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is required to work as a pilot
