Main Duties

Tilesetters perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Interpret blueprints and architectural drawings to determine layout and materials
  • Prepare surfaces and install underbeds, waterproof membranes, and backer boards
  • Mix and apply mortar, cement, adhesives, and epoxy materials
  • Set tiles accurately and apply pressure to ensure strong bonding
  • Align and level tiles using measuring tools, squares, and laser guides
  • Cut and shape tiles using hand tools and power wet saws
  • Apply grout between tiles and clean excess materials for a polished finish
  • Install decorative mosaic patterns and custom tile designs
  • Work with specialized materials such as marble, granite, and terrazzo
  • Repair and replace damaged tiles and estimate material costs for projects

Employment Requirements
