Main Duties

Roofers and shinglers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Install, repair, and replace built-up roofing systems using asphalt, gravel, and waterproof materials
  • Install and maintain single-ply roofing systems using modern synthetic materials
  • Install asphalt, wood, and composite shingles on sloped roofs
  • Fit and install clay tiles and masonry roofing materials
  • Install and repair metal roofing systems including standing seam and corrugated panels
  • Install sheet metal flashings to ensure watertight seals around structures
  • Apply waterproof coatings to roofs and masonry surfaces
  • Set up scaffolding and safety systems for working at heights
  • Install green roofing systems and solar-integrated roofing structures
  • Inspect roofs, identify damage, and estimate materials and repair costs

Employment Requirements

These are the typical employment requirements and certifications required in Canada:
