Main Duties

Heavy equipment operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Operate heavy machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and graders
  • Move, load, and grade earth, rock, gravel, and other materials
  • Clear land, brush, and stumps for construction, logging, or mining projects
  • Operate pile-driving equipment for building and bridge foundations
  • Use dredging equipment to deepen waterways or reclaim land
  • Operate paving machinery to spread and compact asphalt or concrete
  • Excavate materials in mining operations such as open-pit mines and quarries
  • Conduct daily pre-operation inspections of equipment and safety systems
  • Perform basic maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and refueling
  • Use GPS and computer-guided systems for precision excavation and grading

Employment Requirements
