Main Duties

Printing press operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Review job orders to determine print specifications, colors, and production timelines
  • Mount printing plates or cylinders and adjust press settings
  • Manage ink levels and adjust viscosity and color calibration
  • Set up printing presses and verify alignment and registration
  • Monitor production runs using control systems and adjust for consistency
  • Clean and maintain printing equipment after production runs
  • Supervise press assistants and ensure compliance with safety procedures
  • Handle various substrates such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass
  • Troubleshoot mechanical or digital issues during operations
  • Inspect finished products to ensure quality standards are met
