Main Duties

Mail and parcel sorters perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Sort mail and parcels manually or using automated sorting systems
  • Bundle, label, and route mail to appropriate delivery channels
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and conveyor systems
  • Load and unload mail and parcels from trucks and containers
  • Maintain address databases and process incoming and outgoing mail
  • Verify addresses and redirect incorrectly labeled packages
  • Weigh parcels and calculate postage requirements
  • Operate mail-sorting machines and labeling systems
  • Perform basic maintenance of sorting and mailing equipment
  • Ensure timely processing of high-volume shipments in logistics facilities
