Main Duties

Letter carriers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Sort letters, parcels, and mail items according to delivery routes
  • Load mail into delivery vehicles or carry mailbags for walking routes
  • Deliver mail and parcels to residential and commercial addresses
  • Collect payments for cash-on-delivery items and obtain signatures
  • Leave notices for undelivered mail and provide pickup instructions
  • Return undelivered items and report delivery issues
  • Maintain records of deliveries and high-security items
  • Interact with customers and provide postal service information
  • Identify route hazards and report safety concerns
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions

Employment Requirements
