Main Duties
Railway yard and track maintenance workers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Operate control panel switches to regulate train movements in railway yards
- Align and switch train cars for coupling, uncoupling, and servicing
- Operate specialized machinery for laying and repairing railway tracks
- Spread and level ballast to ensure track stability and safety
- Inspect tracks and identify damaged rails, switches, or drainage issues
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on track equipment
- Clear snow, ice, and debris from tracks and switches
- Operate rail-specific equipment such as tie tampers and ballast regulators
- Assist in maintaining safe railway operations and traffic flow
- Work in rotating shifts and ensure compliance with railway safety standards
Employment Requirements

- Experience as a railway labourer is usually required
