Main Duties

Public works maintenance equipment operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Operate equipment such as street sweepers, snowplows, and garbage trucks
  • Collect and transport waste and recyclable materials
  • Clear snow and ice using plows, blowers, and salt/sand spreaders
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Use GPS and routing systems to optimize operations
  • Monitor and record material usage such as salt and sand
  • Maintain public infrastructure such as roads and sidewalks
  • Work during emergency weather conditions
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations

Employment Requirements
