Main Duties
Longshore workers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Load and unload cargo from ships using mechanical equipment or manual methods
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other terminal equipment
- Handle bulk materials such as grain, coal, and containers
- Secure cargo using lashings, bracing, and dunnage
- Direct crane operators using hand signals or radio communication
- Operate Ro-Ro vehicles to move cargo on and off ships
- Assist in maintenance and inspection of terminal equipment
- Ensure safe handling and storage of goods
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of dock areas
- Work in shifts including nights and weekends
Employment Requirements
