Main Duties

Underground production and development miners perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Set up and operate jumbo drills and other specialized drilling machines to produce blasting patterns
  • Load explosives, set fuses, and detonate charges to fragment rock in underground mines
  • Operate scooptrams, load-haul-dump machines, and mucking equipment to haul ore
  • Perform safety duties such as scaling loose rock and installing rock bolts or timber supports
  • Extend and install air and water pipes to support underground mining operations
  • Inspect mine shafts and operate hoists to transport personnel and equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance on mining machinery and report mechanical issues
  • Support ore extraction and development activities in underground mining environments
  • Follow strict safety procedures and underground operational protocols
