Main Duties

Logging machinery operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Operate heavy-duty logging machinery such as feller-bunchers, harvesters, and processors to fell and process trees
  • Drive skidders and forwarders to transport logs from cutting areas to landing zones
  • Operate grapple yarders and cable systems to move logs across steep or difficult terrain
  • Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubricating, and minor repairs of machinery
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable forestry practices
  • Coordinate with ground crews using radio communication for safe and efficient operations
  • Maintain production and operational records
  • Inspect equipment and report mechanical issues to maintenance teams
  • Work in remote forest environments under varying weather conditions
