Main Duties
Fishermen/women perform some or all of the following duties:
- Operate fishing gear such as nets, traps, trawls, and longlines to harvest fish and marine species
- Sort, clean, and store fish or shellfish in ice and prepare for transport
- Maintain and repair fishing equipment including nets, lines, and traps
- Operate deck machinery such as winches, cranes, and hydraulic hauling systems
- Assist with vessel navigation and maintain lookout duties under supervision
- Ensure catch is handled according to food safety and export quality standards
- Participate in emergency drills and ensure safety equipment is functional
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust fishing activities accordingly
