Main Duties

Chain saw and skidder operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Use chain saws to fell trees safely and efficiently in forested areas
  • Delimb and buck felled trees into specified lengths based on production requirements
  • Operate skidders (cable or grapple) to transport logs to landing or loading areas
  • Perform routine maintenance on chain saws and skidders, including sharpening, lubrication, and minor repairs
  • Sort and stack logs by species, size, and quality for transport
  • Follow strict safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Work in coordination with logging crews to ensure safe operations
  • Monitor terrain conditions and adjust operations accordingly
