Main Duties

Silviculture and forestry workers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Plant tree seedlings manually or using planting equipment in reforestation areas
  • Operate brush saws and chain saws to thin forest stands and remove unwanted vegetation
  • Assist in forest fire prevention and suppression activities
  • Work in nurseries to sort, package, and prepare seedlings for transport
  • Prepare land for planting by clearing debris and performing soil preparation (scarification)
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform minor repairs
  • Monitor forest conditions and report pests, diseases, or environmental issues
  • Support sustainable forestry practices and environmental conservation initiatives
  • Work in remote forest environments under various weather conditions
