Main Duties
Aquaculture and marine harvest labourers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Assist in feeding fish and shellfish and monitoring water quality conditions
- Harvest shellfish such as oysters, mussels, and clams from marine farms or natural beds
- Clean and maintain sea cages, nets, tanks, and aquaculture equipment
- Sort, grade, and pack harvested seafood products for transport
- Assist in hatchery operations including spawning and transferring fish stock
- Repair and maintain aquaculture gear and equipment
- Support biosecurity procedures to prevent disease and contamination
- Operate basic tools and equipment used in aquaculture operations
- Work in wet, outdoor, and marine environments under varying weather conditions
