Main Duties

Aquaculture and marine harvest labourers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Assist in feeding fish and shellfish and monitoring water quality conditions
  • Harvest shellfish such as oysters, mussels, and clams from marine farms or natural beds
  • Clean and maintain sea cages, nets, tanks, and aquaculture equipment
  • Sort, grade, and pack harvested seafood products for transport
  • Assist in hatchery operations including spawning and transferring fish stock
  • Repair and maintain aquaculture gear and equipment
  • Support biosecurity procedures to prevent disease and contamination
  • Operate basic tools and equipment used in aquaculture operations
  • Work in wet, outdoor, and marine environments under varying weather conditions
