Main Duties

Pulping, papermaking and coating control operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Operate and monitor multi-function process control machinery from central control rooms to produce pulp, paper, and coated products
  • Control the processing of wood, scrap pulp, and recyclable materials using computerized systems
  • Analyze instrument readings and production test samples to ensure product quality and consistency
  • Adjust processing conditions to optimize chemical usage, coating quality, and production efficiency
  • Coordinate with field operators and maintenance crews to maintain continuous plant operations
  • Monitor and manage Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and other automated production interfaces
  • Maintain production logs, operating records, and quality assurance reports
  • Detect equipment wear, process anomalies, and system malfunctions and initiate corrective action
  • Support environmental and safety compliance in pulping, papermaking, and coating operations
