Main Duties
Foundry workers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Make and repair sand moulds manually or using automated moulding machines
- Produce sand or ceramic cores to create internal cavities in metal castings
- Operate electric, induction, or gas furnaces to melt ferrous and non-ferrous metals
- Pour molten metal into moulds using ladles or specialized casting equipment
- Monitor cooling and solidification processes to ensure casting quality
- Operate die casting and centrifugal casting machines
- Inspect finished castings for defects and ensure compliance with specifications
- Maintain and clean foundry equipment and work areas
- Follow strict safety procedures for high-temperature and hazardous environments
