Main Duties

Foundry workers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Make and repair sand moulds manually or using automated moulding machines
  • Produce sand or ceramic cores to create internal cavities in metal castings
  • Operate electric, induction, or gas furnaces to melt ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Pour molten metal into moulds using ladles or specialized casting equipment
  • Monitor cooling and solidification processes to ensure casting quality
  • Operate die casting and centrifugal casting machines
  • Inspect finished castings for defects and ensure compliance with specifications
  • Maintain and clean foundry equipment and work areas
  • Follow strict safety procedures for high-temperature and hazardous environments
