Main Duties
Sawmill machine operators perform some or all of the following duties:
- Operate automated lumbermill equipment from control rooms or consoles to cut logs into rough lumber
- Use laser scanners and computer systems to determine optimal cutting patterns for timber
- Monitor control panels and computer displays to ensure accurate and efficient cutting operations
- Set up and adjust sawmill machinery including circular saws, band saws, and planers
