Main Duties

Pulp mill, papermaking and finishing machine operators perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Operate and monitor equipment such as digesters, screening systems, bleaching units, and paper machines to process wood fibers into pulp and paper
  • Control and adjust machinery using gauges, control panels, and digital SCADA systems
  • Observe production indicators to detect malfunctions and ensure products meet specifications
  • Collect samples and perform tests such as pH, density, and chemical composition analysis
  • Inspect finished paper products for defects such as wrinkles, holes, or discoloration
  • Coordinate with control room operators to adjust production processes and manage start-ups or shutdowns
  • Maintain production logs and report deviations or equipment issues
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery to ensure optimal performance
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards in pulp and paper processing
