Main Duties

Lumber graders and other wood processing inspectors and graders perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Inspect lumber and wood products for defects such as knots, cracks, splits, and rot
  • Sort and grade wood products according to established industry standards and specifications
  • Measure wood dimensions using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools
  • Verify that products meet thickness, width, length, and quality requirements
