Main Duties

Camera, platemaking and prepress workers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Prepare digital files for printing by performing color separation, retouching, and layout adjustments
  • Operate computer-controlled systems for image processing and final print preparation
  • Prepare and develop printing plates using computer-to-plate (CTP) equipment
  • Operate scanners and digital imaging systems to produce high-quality color separations
  • Engrave printing plates or cylinders using laser or manual techniques
  • Ensure print-ready files meet technical specifications for accuracy and quality
  • Perform digital proofing to identify errors in layout, color, or registration
  • Collaborate with designers and production teams to ensure accurate print outputs
  • Maintain and calibrate prepress equipment and software systems
