Main Duties
Camera, platemaking and prepress workers perform some or all of the following duties:
- Prepare digital files for printing by performing color separation, retouching, and layout adjustments
- Operate computer-controlled systems for image processing and final print preparation
- Prepare and develop printing plates using computer-to-plate (CTP) equipment
- Operate scanners and digital imaging systems to produce high-quality color separations
- Engrave printing plates or cylinders using laser or manual techniques
- Ensure print-ready files meet technical specifications for accuracy and quality
- Perform digital proofing to identify errors in layout, color, or registration
- Collaborate with designers and production teams to ensure accurate print outputs
- Maintain and calibrate prepress equipment and software systems
