Main Duties

Labourers in metal fabrication perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Assist welders, machinists, and metal fabricators by holding parts, positioning materials, and supplying tools
  • Load and unload metal materials and fabricated components using manual methods or lifting equipment
  • Move materials to and from workstations, conveyors, and storage areas
  • Grind, smooth, and finish metal surfaces using hand tools and portable grinders
  • Remove excess material, burrs, and sharp edges from fabricated metal parts
  • Clean work areas, machinery, and equipment to maintain safe working conditions
  • Sort and dispose of scrap metal and waste materials
  • Support daily production activities in fabrication and machine shop environments
  • Follow strict safety procedures including use of protective equipment
