Main Duties
Labourers in metal fabrication perform some or all of the following duties:
- Assist welders, machinists, and metal fabricators by holding parts, positioning materials, and supplying tools
- Load and unload metal materials and fabricated components using manual methods or lifting equipment
- Move materials to and from workstations, conveyors, and storage areas
- Grind, smooth, and finish metal surfaces using hand tools and portable grinders
- Remove excess material, burrs, and sharp edges from fabricated metal parts
- Clean work areas, machinery, and equipment to maintain safe working conditions
- Sort and dispose of scrap metal and waste materials
- Support daily production activities in fabrication and machine shop environments
- Follow strict safety procedures including use of protective equipment
