Main Duties

Labourers in fish and seafood processing perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Unload fish and shellfish from vessels and transport them to processing areas by hand or forklift
  • Immerse fish fillets in brine solutions or other preservatives for packaging
  • Sort and weigh fish by species, size, and destination, maintaining production logs
  • Pack seafood products in ice, containers, or other packaging for shipping
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, tools, and machinery to meet CFIA standards
  • Assist plant operators in machine setup and material handling
  • Handle products safely in cold, wet, and noisy environments
  • Perform repetitive motions required for trimming, brining, or packing seafood
