Getting PR Through an LMIA
An LMIA doesn't just give you a work permit—it's a massive stepping stone to Canadian Permanent Residence. Here is how the transition works.
PRO TIP: Find LMIA Sponsors
The first step to PR through LMIA is actually finding the employer. Skip the generic job boards. Browse JobMaze to find organizations actively supporting immigration.
How an LMIA Boosts Your PR Profile
50 CRS Points (Most Roles)
If your LMIA job is in TEER 1, 2, or 3, a valid job offer automatically adds 50 points to your Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
200 CRS Points (Management)
If your LMIA job offer is heavily managerial (TEER 0 - Major Group 00), it adds a massive 200 points to your CRS score, practically securing an ITA.
The LMIA to PR Workflow
Step 1: Secure the LMIA Job
Get hired by an employer who applies for and receives a positive LMIA.
Step 2: Get a Closed Work Permit
Use the positive LMIA to apply for an employer-specific work permit.
Step 3: Gain Canadian Experience
Work in Canada. After 12 months, you qualify for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) in Express Entry.
Step 4: Claim Job Offer Points
Add the 50/200 points to your Express Entry profile.
Step 5: Apply for PNP (Optional)
Use your job offer to apply for a Provincial Nominee Program for an extra 600 points.
