Top 10 NOC Codes with Highest PR Chances
Canada's Category-Based Selection system gives certain occupations a major edge. Find out which NOC codes get invited first — and why.
Last updated: April 2026. Canada's Express Entry category-based draws change frequently. CRS ranges shown are based on recent draw history. Always verify with IRCC's official website for the latest cut-off scores.
How Category-Based Selection Works
Since May 2023, IRCC runs targeted Express Entry draws for specific occupational categories. Candidates in these categories compete only against others in the same category — resulting in much lower CRS cut-offs than general draws (which often require 500+).
The Top 10 NOC Codes (2026)
Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses
Healthcare is IRCC's #1 priority category. Nurses consistently see the lowest CRS cut-offs, sometimes under 430.
Software Engineers and Designers
STEM is a top Express Entry category. Demand for software engineers is extremely high across all provinces.
Contractors and Supervisors, Electrical Trades
Trades category draws opened new PR pathways with lower CRS thresholds for skilled electricians and trade supervisors.
Specialist Physicians
Physicians with Canadian work experience qualify for specific draws with record-low CRS cut-offs under 400.
Computer and Information Systems Managers
TEER 0 management roles in tech qualify for both general and STEM category draws with strong CRS profiles.
Secondary School Teachers
Education is one of 6 federal priority categories. Teachers are in shortage across nearly every province.
Transport Truck Drivers
Transport is a declared Express Entry priority. Truck drivers qualify under TEER 3 — rare for PR pathways.
Financial Managers
Senior managers in finance with Canadian experience qualify for executive draws with significant CRS advantages.
Biologists and Related Scientists
Researchers qualify for IRCC's dedicated researcher draw stream, often with CRS scores under 460.
General Practitioners and Family Physicians
GPs are critically needed in rural Canada. Provincial health authorities actively recruit internationally trained physicians.
How to Maximize Your PR Chances
- Verify your NOC code matches your actual job duties — misrepresentation is grounds for refusal.
- Maintain an active Express Entry profile with all documents up to date.
- Improve your CRS score through language (CLB 9+), Canadian education, or a job offer.
- Consider French language training — French draws consistently have the lowest CRS cut-offs.
- Explore Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) — a nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score.
- Work experience must be full-time (or equivalent) for at least 12 months within the last 3 years.
